The past few months have been incredibly hectic, as ever, but we’re thrilled to be part of this, and thrilled to be working with such great people, on their product vision.
For the past 4 years, we’ve worked very closely with the Salesforce ExactTarget Marketing Cloud product teams to design and refine products that make marketers around the world more productive and successful. Connections has come a long way since its inception, with attendance this year at over 8000 people. While we spend all year working on the Marketing Cloud user experience, alongside internal design teams, developers and product managers, the run-up to Connections is an especially active time. It’s the time when everyone digs in and gets the big picture view, and all efforts focus on polishing new ideas, tying off loose ends, and helping to ensure all the design work tells the right story.
And of course, working on the main stage demos where the big announcements and reveals happen!
We’re always blown away each year, to see the results of our collaboration with ET up there on the huge screens, being presented by the amazing Salesforce executive leadership. And, of course, it’s always amazing to see the customers – the users – get so excited, and sharing their excitement online.
One of the big themes this year was creating a consistent brand experience across all devices and channels. So the biggest release announcement was Journey Builder for Apps.
Journey Builder is a tool we’ve been working on with ExactTarget for a few years, and it’s become an incredibly important tool for modern Marketers, as the industry shifts from a model of batch/blast “broadcast” style sending, to a totally customer-centric 1:1 marketing model. And at the Salesforce ExactTarget Marketing Cloud, they’ve really gone “all in” on the concept this year. Customers are really embracing the power of Journey Marketing now, too, and the excitement around the Convention Center has been palpable.
Even if you aren’t a marketer, by watching the products in action during the keynote, you can see how user-centered design can empower people to accomplish what was previously incredibly challenging or downright impossible.
ExactTarget had some great partners to showcase the people using these tools across several businesses. Fitbit was a great “behind-the-scenes story” where Journey Map and Builder made their fitness monitoring product even more engaging and rewarding for Fitbit users. These are stories we can all easily connect to. We are humbled and proud that through design we play a significant part in helping our clients, our client’s customers, and their users improve their lives in meaningful ways.
