A strong focus on usability is vital to the adoption and growth of enterprise software: it can drive adoption, increase retention, reduce support costs, shorten sales cycles, and serve as a key differentiator…there is a lot of data out there now about how user experience can make a difference to the bottom line.

Typical Project Types

Redesign an Existing Product

Often we engage with our clients because a product has been burdened by features over time, or no longer meets the needs of the business and end users. We tailor our process to perform the needed research and design activities to bring new value from existing products and categories.

Future Vision

We have years of experience creating visionary products that will help with stakeholder buy-in, funding discussions, and getting teams excited about what the future could be. Steeped in real-world values and data, our vision work holds onto reality.

Team Augmentation

Already have a team working on your product but need a bigger boat, design leadership or an outside perspective? Our directors, developers and designers are experienced in quickly adding value to in-flight projects and bringing our best practices into your world.

Consider these questions with a prospective design studio before you agree to a project:

How and when do you incorporate research?

Beware the agencies that have ready answers to design challenges. Good designers are excited about the opportunity to learn from others, including stakeholders, SMEs and users.

Do you value continuous iteration and testing?

The best design isn’t a single event, it’s an ongoing process of incremental steps. You should understand how the agency includes iteration and testing within their process.

How will we work together?

Will I get shuffled to the B-team once I sign the proposal? How will we manage meetings, documents, and communications? Will we meet in person at all? How often?

Where will you leave off in the process?

You’re looking for people who will be in it with you through launching a successful product, not just through some limited set of deliverables that they’ll get paid for.

Has my project lead ever worked for an internal design team before?

It’s easier to work with a designer who has experienced different processes and can adapt to yours, and who knows how to work with internal teams to get a product released.

Can you show me KPIs from other successful projects?

Do they understand the details of an end-to-end project? How would we set up our success metrics for this project?

Can you describe your design process?

How do they go about understanding users/consumers? How do they reflect that understanding in a design that accommodates how a product actually works?

Can you show me examples of work in progress?

Ask to see more than just the end deliverables. You probably want to see case studies/work samples from three projects that align with your own in one way or another. Look for intersections in client size, target market, project goal/work product, domain, and/or complexity of domain.
